This is a great style for small spaces. With only one leg in the middle and no harsh edges, your eyes and light easily travel around the table making it appear less bulky. For particularly small homes — look for tables that are 36″ to 42″ in diameter. A 48″ table may sound small and may look small in the store, but it can look huge once you get it home. The table has been in existence since as far back as ancient Egypt though the use and concept of what a table does has changed. Early tables such as those in Egypt, Greece and Rome began simply as a means to lift food or objects off of the floor. The earliest versions of tables were often a simple plank or smooth surface lacking our modern day concepts of legs and complimentary chairs. As tables evolved so did their designs.
